How to Stay in Touch Overseas

iphone_5_apple_store_hero

Staying in touch overseas is easier than ever before: the Internet has made it possible to stay in touch no matter where you are in the world. There are heaps of different ways to stay in touch, but some of them are fairly expensive and somewhat out of date. Here are my personal favourite ways to stay in touch when I’m on the other side of the world to my friends and family: Using my Smartphone:When I went traveling the first time, I didn’t bother to take a phone. When my camera was stolen overseas, I replaced it with an iPhone. Although it was an expensive purchase, it was so valuable for keeping in touch. I c [...]

Queenstown City Guide

Queenstown

Queenstown is one of the biggest tourist hot spots in New Zealand and is definitely worth a visit. It’s often thought of, at least by New Zealanders, as the “adventure capital” of the world. This is where bungy jumping started out and here you can jump out of a plane, off a bridge, or get in a boat that’s going at crazy speeds – whatever extreme sport you fancy.  Costs in QueenstownQueenstown is expensive for New Zealand, and if you want to enjoy it I think it’s best to bring a pretty cushiony budget along with you.  If you want to do any extreme sports, you’re looking at least $100 and sometimes we [...]

Places I want to visit in America

JoshaTreeOnset

I never thought I’d like America… I don’t know why. I guess the way it was portrayed in the movies made it look so superficial, but after my first visit for Coachella last year, I kind of fell in love. While it’s not one of my favourite countries, San Diego definitely makes the list of places I could live in. That first trip sparked some genuine curiosity, and now I have a decent size list of places I’d love to visit in America. Some of the places are obvious, and some of them are not-so-obvious. Austin, Texas:Everyone always laughs when I tell them I want to go to Austin, probably because I don’t re [...]

Falling in love with Ubud

bali1

I went to Ubud to rest. I’d already visited a few places in Bali, including trashy Kuta and boring Sanur beach. I didn’t like either place and had disregarded Bali as somewhere that was too touristy and not that great – I’d seen better beaches in Gili Trangawan and parts of Thailand. There was one place in Bali I really wanted to visit, but I was really on the fence about it. I’d heard of people falling in love with the food, the earthy vibe, the beautiful rice paddy fields and spend days at a time doing yoga. After I was stabbed in Indonesia, I was pretty jaded. I spent a few days being cautious any t [...]

My biggest Regret

picture3

I try to live a regret-free-life, with the motto that if anything you did was what you wanted to do most at the time, then you can’t really regret it. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but it’s also kind of a pain in the ass! You could analyze all the different ways you could have handled a situation for the rest of your life and you’d really gain nothing from it. I do have one regret that I think about now and then. If I ever have children, I’m going to make sure they don’t make the same mistake I did. I was 17, fresh out of high school and obsessed with the idea of traveling (no surprises there). I want [...]
